I’ve looked into writing a bio for my site before, and all the advice seems to be geared around making yourself look good, or driving traffic to your site. This is more of a fun endeavour - a bit “for the sake of it” - so I’m just going to waffle here.
I’m originally from South Wales, but moved to Oxfordshire in my early 30s. I work at Nominet as a Data Warehouse Engineer. I live with my partner and two kids, and definitely enjoy spending time watching cartoons - I have been frowned at for laughing at Peppa Pig on multiple occasions.
Living well (not really a fan of the term “wellness”) is important to me. I exercise frequently and eat real foods, with my main goal being longevity. But, I’m only human, and have been known to shovel large quantities of trifle or most of a pack of biscuits into my mouth when they find their way into my hand. I have a casual interest in bio-hacking, specifically nutrigenomics/supplementation side of things.
Some of my fondest memories as a child involved sitting playing Bubble Bobble or Yie Ar Kung Fu with my friends, after waiting for (seemingly) hours for my Sinclair ZX Spectrum +2A to load. I realised later on, that very few games capture my attention when I’m on my own (I gravitate to very hard games where you die a lot and compulsively restart). I only really get into most games when I’m sharing the experience others. This became more obvious when I rediscovered board games!
I really enjoy getting around a table with friends and loved ones for some games. It’s a connection thing - an opportunity to catch up whilst having some fun at the same time. I like all sorts of games with all sorts of depths, ranging from Spirit Island (my favourite), through to Carcassonne and Codenames. I’m not usually fussy, it’s more about the company!
I try and read often, but sometimes this gets sidelined by parenting, exercise and personal projects. I tend heavily toward non-fiction, the last two books I’ve read being Breath, and Atomic Habits.
